He first realized his passion for coaching as a Junior Coach for his childhood wrestling program while in high school and junior college. Coach Schlueter began coaching at Brea in 2002. During his time coaching student athletes here at Brea-Olinda HS and Brea Wrestling Club he has successfully coached multiple League Champions & Placers, multiple CIF Champions & Placers, Masters Finalists & Placers, as well as California State Freestyle Placers and Western Regional Qualifiers.

Tom James MS, CSCS - Assistant Coach

Coach James joined the BOHS wrestling family at the beginning of the 1997-1998 season. Throughout his years working with the kids, he has been blessed to work with many good coaches and family members in support of the program. The fundamental point that brings him back each year is that he enjoys working with the kids. Being involved with their growth from doughy-eyed first year wrestlers to mature young men and women is tremendously rewarding.

Like many of the kids that progress through our program, Coach James did not begin wrestling until he was in high school. In addition to wrestling in high school he also wrestled at Cypress College and for a brief stint in the Marine Corps. Coach James tries to instill in our kids many of the same character traits that were forged from his wrestling and military experiences. To this end, the kids have always come first.

Coach James is married to a beautiful woman, Melissa, whose unconditional and unwavering support has allowed him to spend uncountable hours away from home working with our BOHS wrestling family. Coach James and Melissa are blessed with three children, Kryslin Skylar, Braeden Thomas, and Landon Leo.

In addition to coaching Coach James also teaches at California State University Fullerton, for the Department of Kinesiology. Coach James has begun the final phase for earning his doctoral degree – the dreaded dissertation.
